1. She's relatively young and telegenic. This is an area that Obama had McCain beat. I hate to say it but it's a fact in modern TV-Era politics that good-looking, younger candidates have an appeal to the average voter.
2. She's reportedly a solid, reform-oriented outside-the-beltway conservative. The base was always a little wary of "maverick" John McCain. Conservatives needed a reason to go to the polls other than "at least he's not Obama".
3. Disaffected (female) Hillary voters, still smarting from the media annointment of Obama as the Democrat Candidate, may find Palin to be a real alternative.
4. She's from an oil-rich state and has already championed domestic oil production, including in ANWR.
We don't know her well enough yet to say for certain, but from early reports, I really like this choice. I think John McCain and Sarah Palin sharply contrast with their fluff and buff opponents Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
